Samples of fixing it in post
I obviously could not blow up the million dollar home we were shooting in, so I improvised.
The shot below is of the house during the winter, but not at night.
Roll your mouse over it to see the transformation, then click to see the explanation.
Never did get a real nice blizzard to shoot in, so had to composite everything.

This is a shot that follows a real Hummer's collision with a lampost.
It is totally CGI using Lightwave 3D and lots of hypervoxels for snow. THIS is
a medium-res sample with the preceding Hummer Hit. Each full res frame is taking 16 minutes to render

The RAW footage has lights on in the house when it should have been candlelight.
The snow on the ground is too warm for night and there's no snow falling.
The FX footage corrects all the mistakes on set.

In this scene we just didn't have snow at the same time
that we had the actors and a Hummer H2.
So I created snow fields for both foreground and distant snowfall in
Lightwave 3D and composited them together in After FX for the final scene.
